Well first and foremost, Welcome to my first blog!
I've been determined to stay up-to-date with my Myspace blogging, but my ambition is better than my follow-through (evidently). I came across this page while googling obsessively (it's a disorder, I swear) and here I am! Hopefully I keep things more up to date now that I have a site specifically geared towards blogging and not notoriously branded with negative connotations.
Now on to the blog...
As many of you know, I got a new job a couple of weeks ago. Coming across this job was purely circumstantial, and I was extremely happy about its timing, given that I was laid off only two weeks prior from a job I despised.
When coming on to this job, I knew I would initially not like it because I abhor, detest, loathe--anyway you put it--I hate change. That being said, the opportunity looked promising, my co-workers seemed friendly, the location was advantageous and most importantly, it meant a paycheck!
I wasn't sure what the job entailed, specifically, when I signed on. I knew what the company did, but I didn't know what my specific contribution(s) would be. My first week or so, it appeared I would be handling the logistics of the railcars we use to haul our products to and fro, and I was given a lovely title: commodities merchandising assistant (fancy, eh?). I did that for about a week and got somewhat comfortable with some of my duties and my coworkers (all of whom are extremely nice, though there is little personal interaction.) On my third week here, a new co-worker came on board--and took over my desk while I moved to the dispatching side of things--the part that handles the logistics of the trucks. I was under the impression that the move was temporary so that I could cross train between departments. We've moved on to Week 2, and I'm still here at the new desk.
Now don't get me wrong--I like it in here. I work with two much more personable girls (closer in age to myself) and there is more privacy, but I have nothing to work on. I've tried picking up some of their loads and placing them, to no avail. I've asked to pick up a task here and there, but they usually do it themselves. Now I'm working on week four at my new job, and I feel like I have very little to contribute. In addition to that, I worry that working in this role, I won't be able to show the the VP and Owner what I'm capable of--which was one of the things I was most looking forward to!
So I have been bored....bored...bored.
I'm trying to exert myself--and I'll keep trying. Just keep your fingers crossed for me and wish me luck.
B.
