- Closing on the house today at 9am (woo hoo); hopefully we'll be able to move as early as tomorrow! Since I just got the info at 3:30PM yesterday, we're in a mad rush to get the apt packed up! It's crazy!
- 8WC, which is now the 9WC thanks to a couple of hiccups, is over on Monday. Steve has lost 27 lbs. I think this pretty much takes me out of the running for anything. Ha. Still, even if I don't win, I am looking and feeling better. More on (all) this as time allows.
- Today's my Mom's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM), Have Nicole's bday on Wed, Jana's on Sat and mine on Sunday. Busy, busy week!
- Jana's still working with MMRF to get everything worked out on Memphis Miles. More info on that in the upcoming week(s).
- Only one week til Leslie is in town. Poor thing broke her foot last week and is going to have an especially tough time getting around. Still, I'll be happy to have her here and hopefully we'll be all moved in to the new house by then.
- That's all the time I've got. It's been a crazy couple of weeks! :)

Drum Roll Please...
I will now begin the extensive promotion of the Miles for Myeloma Walk/Run.
Please take a moment and go to the new website at
http://www.memphismiles.com/
From there, you can visit the MMRF webpage, sign up to participate, or donate.
This is a very important cause and I would really appreciate any support you (all) provide.
Thanks, y'all! :)

Great News!
Until recently I allowed the stress of everyday life get to me, unable to realize there was a cure for all my problems. According to the honest folks on the telly, (I was at the gym and therefore could only read what was written on the screen; there was no sound) with a simple call and donation to 800-925-7295, your prayers will be answered.
Skeptics: this is the real deal.
One lady was cured of cancer, another's debt was completely eliminated and yet a third could see out of her (formerly?) blind eye! It's awesome what God's love (and a small monetary donation) can do for a person.
If only I had known about this years ago.
That bad haircut my mom gave me in fourth grade (and no, we aren't talking run-of-the-mill bad, we're talking life-altering, never-live-it-down bad) would have looked salon perfect; 7th grade grand mal seizure would have equated to nothing more than a new dance move; and, instead of slinging tacos at TB upon graduation, I could have been living the good life of a trophy wife.
Ugly/insensitive husband to said trophy-wife life?
No worries: Just dial the 800 number and voila!
Okay, I've done my duty and shared the good word. Now I've got to get off of here and get to dialing.
Enjoy your new blessings

Another 1st Amendment "Right" case in the Age of the Internet
Let me preface this note by saying that the laws surrounding the Freedom of Speech are being reevaluated daily in this, the age of the Internet. With Internet anti-bullying legislation popping up at every turn, things are changing daily. I don't purport to have all the answers, but my opinion (below) is based on current legislation and (the one thing we have far too little of in the judicial system) common sense.
I read this article today and found it very interesting.
[Read article before continuing, otherwise you'll have no frame of reference for my opinion]
I wish this were a clear-cut issue, but I honestly can see the merit in both arguments:
I do think it is harmful to your child(ren) to bad-mouth the other parent. I, myself, have always made a conscientious effort to avoid that because it not only is detrimental to the child's opinion of that parent (and doesn't give them the opportunity to form their own opinions) but also because it damages the child psychologically. Aside from that, it's just tacky and makes a person look pathetic (many people from my high school do this on FB, and these are the people whose status updates are hidden).
However, in terms of requiring the father to take down his site, I do think that was a violation of his right to free speech (at least our modern interpretation of that concept). I see parents raising kids in detrimental conditions all the time (including the language they use), and no one has outlawed the use of specific words that breed hatred and negativity in these situations. It's a shame that we live in a society where people are so quick to post things in the Internet that they would never have had the gumption to say in real life, but this is what we have "evolved" into. My advice for the courts: If the things posted on the site were not accurate, allow the mother to file a libel suit (although she would have the burden of proving that the site was specifically aimed to her and it seems that it was done somewhat anonymously). If the accusations were accurate--well, that's a lesson to be learned: make sure you are proud of your actions daily because (unfortunately) the world--at large--may be reading about them in a matter of minutes.
As a side note:
I wonder why the girlfriend feels she has any role in this.
If the mother and father are having issues, the girlfriend should probably allow them to run whatever course they desire, but either way it is in no way the girlfriend's business. Seems to me she (said girlfriend) is simply another catty woman hellbent on causing problems and stirring drama. If the father had created and maintained the site on his own, I'd feel a lot more sensitive to his plight (after all, men are rarely treated as equal in these domestic cases).
I can tell you this assuredly: When I date a man with children (as I am now), I never get involved in the arrangements for the kids. I know some women refuse to allow their boyfriends/spouses that control (insecurities, anyone?), but I feel (and court precedent agrees) that the new mate has no say in orders such as financial support, custody, etc. I'm sure they have come to realize, just like me, that it's unhealthy and rarely based on the child(ren)'s best interest; far too often, it's simply an avenue for the new mate to cause problems and reek havoc with no basis of merit.
[Steps off soapbox]
What are your thoughts?
Any experience with this yourself?
How do you think the courts should have handled it?
Update: I just went to the site and checked it out. This is NOT a site devoted to the plight of a father to be treated equally under the law; this site's primary purpose, it would seem, is to belittle the exwife, not to discuss the injustices of the judicial system, nor to offer advice to anyone subjected to those injustices. While that doesn't change my opinion on the legality of his right to speech, it does make me far less sypathetic towards the father and backs my notion that he and the girlfriend (or wife?) are simply being bitter and using the site as a means to reek havok.
The site was, quite frankly, very pathetic and immature, in my opinion.

Random Thought
As I sit on my couch and look around my (absolute mess of a) living room, I can't help but wonder why hypothetical drive is so much stronger than actual drive.
I.e., last week it was, "Just wait til this weekend, I'm going to knock things out." and yesterday/today it's more like, "Hmmm, I really should get up and do something. Really."
Maybe I just need some caffeine. Or a house boy. Or both.
Welp, as they say, Nobody every got ahead by sitting on their behind.
And by "they," of course I mean the cheerleaders from Sugar and Spice.
I'm not ashamed to quote from that movie...well, maybe just a little. :)

This Week's Favorite Status
[Borrowed from Kimi's FB]
Five Thoughts to Ponder:
1. Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a BMW than on a bicycle.
2. Forgive your enemy, but remember his name.
3. Help a man when he is in trouble and he will remember you when he is in trouble again.
4. Many people are alive only because it's illegal to shoot them.
5. Alcohol doesn't solve any problems, but then again, neither does milk.

[Exuberantly Exhales]
It was a bittersweet morning at our house as I sent the kiddo off for her first day of high school.
I think my friends were worried about me (maybe I should have been more upset than I actually was?) because they've been checking on me to make sure I'm okay over the past week. I told them (all) the same thing I tell myself when Kiera reaches any coming-of-age milestone: I'm cool. I had her young. I imagine that, even as Kiera receives her AARP card in the mail, I'll continue convincing myself of that.
If I haven't mentioned it lately, she is an amazing kid.
I asked her to "take inventory" of her clothing last week so we could determine what she needed for school and she said (verbatim), "I've got plenty of everything." Most kids wouldn't even consider starting school without at least a few new outfits, but Kiera didn't even mention wanting one. Of course that kind of consideration only makes me want to spoil her even more. :) I'm so lucky.
Tonight we'll continue our annual ice cream sundae first-day ritual, although we might have to substitute fro-yo this time around, and she'll tell me all about her day. It's nice that she still hasn't outgrown that. Of course, even when she does, though my feelings will be hurt, I'll just tell myself: I'm cool. I had her young.

CMT Ramblings
I've found that the best way to make the time fly on the elliptical is via CMT music video mornings.
Even though they have a looong commercial break every two or three songs, the time just seems to fly by while I'm watching it. And, seeing as how I'm recently reunited with country music, every song is a new song.
A couple of observations, in no particular order:
There's sooo much more to share, but I have way too much on my plate to be blogging around.
Now, back to the grind.

I love Luke Bryan. When did the men of country music get so fine? Gezus.
Where did this chick come from? Is she a legit country singer? She's terrible: makes Katie Parry look talented.
I love this very moment of the video. I'll watch the whole thing just to get here.
Worst. Acting. Ever. Seriously? Nobody tested those chops before hiring her?

This happens to be one of my favs. :)
Every woman wants just one man to love her like this.
